THE VALUE OF THIS HOUSE IS IN ITS ORIGINAL FIXTURES AND WOODWORK
The most unique feature about the Vance Miles house is that only
three families have ever occupied it - two of those families for 50+
years each. The owners gradually updated and maintained the
house, but kept it's unique features in tact. If you are looking
for a historic home that retains its original features without
exploitation over the years, this home is a stellar example.
WOOD TRIM - All wood trim - irreplaceable by today's
standards - is original and complete. The first floor wood trim
around doorways, windows, staircase, etc. is all oak and pine and has
NEVER BEEN PAINTED. The newel post on the stairway is quite
ornate and balusters and handrail are original with no prior painting.
The wood trim on the second floor is less ornate and painted white -
but is all original and matching.
PERIOD FIXTURES - Though the electrical system has been
updated, the house still retains several of the old "push button"
switches and period light fixtures that date back to the turn of the
century.
RADIATORS - Each room still has its original ornate, cast
iron radiator with brass fittings. There are nine radiators
total and only one is non-functioning. They provide excellent,
efficient heat. Furnace is oil fired and less than 10 years old.
WINDOWS - There are a total of 30 windows (including two
leaded glass) that draw in enormous light and bring the outdoors of
mature magnolia, pecan, crepe myrtle and maple trees inside.
Windows are in their original frames and some original glass remains.
Glass is the larger 6 windows measures 60" high X 44" wide. For energy efficiency, storm window and screens have been added.
