Servant's Outdoor Toilet
One unique features of the in the Carriage House is a working, flush "toilet" designed to be used by servants or a gardener.

The toilet (click on image above for larger view) has a seat that automatically stays in the "UP" position.

To use the toilet, one lowers the seat.  When pressure is released on the seat, the seat automatically flips to the UP position and this action flushes the toilet.

Large maple tree in the back yard offers much shade and is completely hollow.  (click image above for larger view).

Victorian Queen Anne

Victorian Queen Anne style house for sale in Cambridge Maryland on the Eastern Shore

The Landscape and Yard

One couldn't ask for a more picturesque lot - on the corner, within feet of the scenic Choptank River with sidewalks surrounding and off street parking.  The yard had many mature trees, including a Deodoro Cedar that provides shade to the screened in side porch as well as regal architectural beauty.

Borders and beds with perennials, ornamental trees, a secret garden with arbor entrance and a boxwood labyrinth are just some of the interesting features in this well tended yard.

The landscape includes Star magnolia, mature dogwoods, mature pecan trees, seven lilac bushes, azaleas, boxwoods and more.

The beauty of the yard is easy to enjoy from both inside and outside the house.  The Queen Anne style of the home provides views of the yard and gardens from nearly every room in the house.  The entire house is surrounded by outside porches and verandas.

Outbuildings

There are two outbuildings on the grounds of the Skinner house.  A Carriage House just outside the back door has its original sliding Carriage door, and provides storage space for gardening and lawn equipment as well as a very unique outdoor "servant's toilet" (see right column).

Farther away from the house and nearer to the off-street driveway is a building that was once used as a poultry house.
